In 1974 Clos Du Bois produced their first wines. Currently, Clos Du Bois produces Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Shiraz, Tempranillo and Merlot. Clos Du Bois offers three different lines of wines; the Classic Series, Appellation Reserve, and the Proprietary Series.
A visit to the Clos Du Bois tasting room is highly recommended. The winery is located at the northern end of Sonoma County between Healdsburg and Geyserville. Acres of vines stretch out in every direction. The tasting room features many rectangular windows that invite the sunlight to fill the room. The wood accents and tall ceiling create a warm and open feeling which is further enhanced by the friendly staff.
The Winemaker at Clos Du Bois, since 2003, is Erik Olsen. Olsen’s resume includes a BS in Fermentation Science from UC Davis, an MS in Food Science from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Washington. Under his influence, Clos Du Bois introduced upper tier wines including the Proprietary Series. Consisting of Marlstone, Briarcrest and Calcaire, the Proprietary Series wines are produced in limited quantities and showcase Erik's award-winning skill as an artisan winemaker.
Clos Du Bois has won numerous awards recognizing their status as a leader in developing, implementing, and promoting sustainable agriculture and environmentally responsible business practices. In 2003 Clos Du Bois was recognized as the first grape growers in Sonoma Country to be certified as a “Fish Friendly Farmer” by the National Marine Fisheries, California Department of Fish & Game, the California Water Resources Control Board, and the Sotoyome Resource Conservation District. Some of their most recent awards include “Green Revolutionary” from the Wine Spectator, and, the Environmental Stewardship Award for Outstanding Efforts and Leadership in the Fish Friendly Farming Program from the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
The Recycling Program at Clos Du Bois encourages recycling in all aspects at the winery from the team working inside the winery to the soil of the vineyards. The grape processing waste becomes compost and is mixed into the soil. Clos Du Bois accepts recycling from neighboring wineries and works with vendors to ensure packaging materials are returned and reused. Clos Du Bois is committed to many areas including Enery Efficiency, Restoration of Riparian Habitat, and Wetland Restoration.
