The first time I heard someone say they wanted to visit wineries in Green Valley I thought, “Where is Green Valley?” After a quick search on the internet I found the website for Green Valley. Instantly I recognized the names of wineries such as Iron Horse Vineyards, Dutton-Goldfield, and Hartford Family.
Three years ago, in 2008, Green Valley changed its name to Green Valley of Russian River Valley, making this small Sonoma County appellation quickly recognizable. Consisting of approximately 8 wineries and over 100 grape growers, Green Valley soil and the accompanying fog combine to create excellent conditions for growing grapes – especially Pinot Noir grapes.
On Sunday, April 17, 2011 Green Valley of Russian River Valley presents Celebrate Earth Day with Green Valley. This event takes place at Iron Horse Vineyards and includes guest speaker, Ted Turner. Guests will be able to taste the award-winning, critically acclaimed wines of Green Valley including those from DeLoach Vineyards, Dutton-Goldfield Winery, Freeman Vineyard & Winery, Hartford Family Winery, Iron Horse Vineyards, Marimar Estate, and Sequana Vineyards.
Along with enjoying crisp, balanced Chardonnays and rich, complex Pinot Noirs, guests will be contributing to a special cause while celebrating Earth Day. Proceeds benefit The Captain Planet Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Ted Turner. The Captain Planet Foundation encourages children from Kindergarten to 12th grade to participate in hands-on activities that inspire students to preserve the environment.
