Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley Summer Open House

There are 13 wine regions in Sonoma County and approximately 200 wineries. After living in Sonoma County for 15 years, I have yet to visit each winery at least once. I usually start with an ambitious plan to visit 3 or 4 wineries. However, the beauty of Northern California’s Wine Country combined with welcoming hospitality and unforgettable wines makes it difficult to move at anything other than a leisurely pace.

Each wine region in Sonoma County stands out for different reasons. The locations of the regions vary from acres of land in the valley or on the coast, to vineyards planted on mountainsides. One region consisting of 15,000 acres dedicated to the growth of the grapes that are the foundation to award-winning wines, is Alexander Valley.

Alexander Valley is home to approximately 40 wineries. There are events that highlight most or all of the wineries in Alexander Valley and there are more intimate events that spotlight a smaller collection of Alexander Valley wineries. The Alexander Valley Summer Open House on July 9, 2011 focuses on nine wineries; Alexander Valley Vineyards, Fieldstone Winery, Johnson’s Alexander Valley Wines, Hanna Winery, Medlock Ames, Sausal Winery, Soda Rock Winery, Stonestreet Winery, and White Oak Winery.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. guests are invited to taste Alexander Valley wines, enjoy Sonoma County cuisine, and purchase their favorite wines at discounted prices. This event provides a wonderful representation of Alexander Valley wines on a day that is certain to be sunny, warm, and beautiful.
