A few weeks ago I was planning a visit to see some relatives. They mentioned they were excited to show me their garden. I was intrigued but figured there would be a few tomato plants and maybe a flower bed. I was pleasantly surprised to see strawberries, blueberries, zucchini, onion, tomatoes, rosemary, and more.
Eagerly I held out my hand as each piece of fresh fruit and produce was picked and placed in my palm for me to sample. I couldn’t wait to return to the garden later to pick fresh herbs and vegetables for dinner. I left wishing I had a garden at my home where the ingredients for any meal were growing in my backyard.
The next best thing to enjoying food from a plentiful garden of my own is to buy local, fresh food from a source I trust. On August 6, 2011 and October 1, 2011 this exact opportunity presents itself when Kendall Jackson Wine Estates brings back for the second year the Kendall Jackson Farm Stand.
The Farm Stand offers seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown in one of the many culinary gardens located at the Kendall Jackson Wine Estates Wine Center. These beautiful, carefully tended gardens include a varied, bountiful supply of foods used by Kendall Jackson Wine Center chefs. Depending on the season, visitors can find eggplant, oregano, blueberries, figs, pomegranate, garlic, apples, thyme, spinach, jasmine, broccoli, bell peppers, raspberries, squash, lavender, and so much more!
The culinary gardens include a Red Sensory Garden featuring foods that pair well with red wines, a White Sensory Garden featuring foods that pair well with white wines, and an Herb Garden that includes edible flowers. The International Cuisine Garden focuses on the delicious fruits, herbs, and vegetables most popular in Asian, French, Italian, and South American cooking. Although the Vegetable Trial Garden is most well-known for the amazing heirloom tomatoes grown there, it is also home to different varietals of vegetables grown worldwide.
Along with fresh, seasonal, fruit, vegetables, and herbs; the Farm Stand will also offer Kendall Jackson wines to purchase and sip with pastries, artisan cheese, and bread. Gourmet food trucks will also be at the event to provide more delicious snacks. Chicago Style Hot Dogs of Santa Rosa, Dim Sum Charlie’s from Napa, and Karma Bistro out of Sonoma will offer an eclectic mix of gourmet foods to enjoy with your favorite Kendall Jackson wine.
