Grab a Seat for The Seghesio Family Vineyards Chef’s Summer Dinner Series

Seghesio chef dinner

Established in 1895 by Edoardo Seghesio, Seghesio Family Vineyards is best known today for its world class Zinfandels. But when summer arrives, the winery is celebrated for its excellent dinners, served in landmark vineyards that the winery established over more than a century, for 300 acres in the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River valleys.

It’s the return of The Seghesio Family Vineyards Chef’s Summer Dinner Series, a popular event that for $200 per person offers the opportunity to dine among the vines of the historic properties where the landmark grapes are grown. Add to that the menus from top chef Peter Janiak, formerly of San Francisco’s Boulevard and Presidio Social Club, plus Seghesio family talent as your hosts, and it’s little wonder that the events sell out quickly. Seating is limited to 50 guests per event, and reservations are required.

The first gathering takes place June 8, at Passalacqua Ranch / San Lorenzo in Alexander Valley. Menus and wines will change for each gathering, but the inaugural evening features:

  • Sonoma County beef carpaccio with avocado, Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes and ricotta salata paired with 2011 Dutton Manzana Pinot Noir
  • Grilled Prawns with English pea risotto and sea urchin butter paired with 2011 Barbera
  • Wood-grilled filet mignon with green garlic potato puree, Zuckerman Farm asparagus, and morel cream paired with a vertical of Old Vine Zinfandel and a rare library vintage of San Lorenzo

And here’s the rest of the schedule:

Westphall Ranch, Rockpile AVA - July 13 - Hosted by Winemaker Ted Seghesio
Rockpile is one of California’s newest appellations, situated on a narrow ridgetop with breathtaking views of Lake Sonoma.

Rattlesnake Hill at Home Ranch, Alexander Valley - August 10 - Hosted by Winemaker Ted Seghesio
The series finale will be at Home Ranch, the birthplace of Seghesio Family Vineyards and the home of America’s oldest Sangiovese vines. Dinner will be served atop Rattlesnake Hill overlooking Alexander Valley.

There’s no need to dress up – you’re dining in a vineyard after all – though part of the fun is celebrating the rural elegance with sparkly jewelry, playful hats, and colorful neckties. Remember to bring that fabulous wrap, too, since vineyards get chilly at night.
