There’s always something exciting happening in Sonoma Valley Wine Country making it a great place to visit any time of year. Start making your plans now for 2013 Savor Sonoma Valley happening March 16th & 17th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a wine and food event shining the spotlight on award-winning wineries in the Heart of Sonoma Valley and local cuisine.

This year, 22 wineries located in and between Kenwood and Glen Ellen partner with Sonoma Valley chefs and restaurants to create perfect pairings. Visitors will experience tasting wine straight from the barrel, sampling new releases and reserve wines, relishing tasty bites, meeting winemakers, touring wineries and vineyards, and listening to live music.

Some participating wineries with names you might recognize are Benziger Family Winery, Chateau St. Jean Winery, Deerfield Ranch Winery, Paradise Ridge Winery, and Ty Caton Vineyards.

To get an idea of what to expect at this event, we’ve turned our own spotlight on a few examples.

  • En Garde Winery invites guests to “Guess the Barrel.” Samples will be poured from American, French, and Hungarian oak barrels. Guests who amazingly choose the correct barrel will be entered in a raffle where the prize is a case of wine.
  • At Enkidu Wines, along with tastings paired with bites created by Doce Lunas Restaurant, Winemaker/Owner Phil Staehle will personally offer barrel tastings to guests.
  • For guests seeking port, Eric Ross Winery will be pouring 2012 Portuguese Port. Along with pouring their own wines, Moondance Cellars hosts samplings of six ports and after-dinner wines from Sonoma Valley Portworks.
  • A visit to VJB Vineyards & Cellars promises to transport guests to Italy. Their Italian varietal wines will be paired with gourmet pizza fresh out of their wood oven.
