Lise and Vincent Ciolino, the proprietors of Montemaggiore, focus on one varietal. Their mission is to consistently produce world-class Syrah and olive oil using biodynamic farming practices. Organic and biodynamic methods are used instead of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides.

The winery is located on top of a hill in Dry Creek Valley in Healdsburg. Standing in front of the winery, enjoy a vast view of Montemaggiore’s 10-acre vineyard of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and 800 olive trees.

Montemaggiore lives in harmony with the land. Lise and Vincent’s commitment to the environment includes recycling the winery “grey water” through a wetland reclamation system for reuse as vineyard irrigation. They enrich their soils naturally through the use of cover crops and organic compost. Plants and woodlands are left intact. Owls and raptors are encouraged to control the rodent populations. During my visit I saw a hawk swoop down on a mouse! Native grasses carpet the vineyard, attracting beneficial mites and bugs that prey on insects harmful to grapevines.

Montemaggiore is open to visitors by appointment only. Pure Luxury has the honor of offering our clients the opportunity to visit Montemaggiore as part of our Eco Tour of Certified Organic and Biodynamic wineries.
