Tony Bennett Receives Applause

My aunt is a Tony Bennett fan. On Thanksgiving Day, after settling in to our comfortable seats by the fire, we waited for the Lady Gaga Thanksgiving television special to start – Tony Bennett was going to be singing duets with Gaga. Tony Bennett has been singing for a long time. The 85 year old American icon has earned 15 Grammy Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, and countless honors including being inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame; receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers; named as a Kennedy Center Honoree; and receiving the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.

Although known internationally, his signature song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” recorded in 1962, has a special place in the hearts of visitors and locals living in the San Francisco Greater Bay Area. The opportunity to listen to his smooth voice on December 16 at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts is not to be missed!

This critically praised singer has sold over 50 million records all across the world. Tony Bennett has performed duets with other legendary artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and more. His 2006 album, “Duets: An American Classic,” earned three Grammy Awards and featured the talents of numerous singers including Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, and Barbra Streisand. His most recent album, “Duets II,” includes the talents of new and returning artists. New duets include those performed with Lady Gaga, Aretha Franklin, John Mayer, and many more. Michael Buble and k.d. Lang return for new duets with this timeless singer.

Tony Bennett’s platinum albums span the 20th and 21st centuries: 1963, I Left My Heart in San Francisco; 1994, MTV Uplugged: Tony Bennett; and 2006 Duets: An American Classic. This incredible performer loves to demonstrate the power of his voice combined with skillful design to create amazing acoustics by singing a song without using his microphone. I can’t wait to hear his voice projecting throughout the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts Person Theater.
