There’s a puppy and kitten smooch booth at Wags Whiskers & Wine, the fundraising gala being held at Trentadue Winery in Geyserville on Aug. 15, to benefit the Sonoma Humane Society.
What else do you need to know, to motivate you to attend the gourmet dinner paired with premier Sonoma County wines and craft beers? How about exciting auction items, live music, and lots of celebrating with many other real, live animals looking for their forever homes as VIPS (very important pets)?
As an extra incentive, the $175 tickets are tax deductible. The money goes toward emergency care, daily care, and support for thousands of animals each year. From tiny babies to golden year pets, each gets a new chance at happiness.
For the gala, while Trentadue wines will be front-and-center as the hosting venue, other local wineries are generously pouring, too, including Fetzer Vineyards, Kenwood Vineyards, Jordan Winery, Lambert Bridge Winery and Papapietro Perry Vineyards, alongside the master beer artists of Russian River Brewery.
The food menu is still underway, but Sonoma County’s top chefs and restaurants are avid supporters of the Humane Society, and each year, they pull out the culinary stops.
In operation since 1931, the SHS is a vital part of the Sonoma County community, benefitting both two legged and four legged types (life is better with a pet, after all). A no-kill shelter, the society relies entirely on private donations, since it receives no government funding.
Beyond coordinating adoptions and rescue care, SHS offers behavior training to ensure happy relationships between person and pet. That means everything from puppy 101, to agility coursing, to being polite on a leash, and dog park survival skills. A state-of-the-art animal hospital is open to the public, as well, with fees going to support the society.
The Sebastopol campus isn’t just for dogs and cats, either. Hamsters, guinea pigs, chickens, bunnies, sheep and goats are here, too, waiting for a loving family to call their own.
