Wines and Canines

If you could help a disabled person, and a puppy, all the while enjoying fine wines and food, you’d want to, wouldn’t you?

Of course you would.

Which is why you’ll want to buy tickets right away for the May 31 Wines and Canines fundraiser benefitting the Canine Companions for Independence organization of Santa Rosa. Besides supporting a most deserving cause, the event at the CCI Schultz campus features first class wines Bob Dog Winery, Chalk Hill, Clos du Bois, Kokomo and Ravenswood, served with chef-crafted appetizers, entrees, desserts and salads. As an extra special offering, some barrel tastings will be included.

The party runs from 1 to 5 p.m., and brings much needed funds for the non-profit that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

All dogs and services are provided free of charge, with dogs raised from puppies and becoming important family members to their guardians.

CCI puppyThe success of the program has gained international attention, for its careful and loving process of humane breeding, placing the puppies with carefully researched foster homes across the country, then delivering the dogs at 15 and 18 months of age to one of five Canine Companions Regional Training Centers across the country, where they undergo professional training.

During the fundraiser, guests can bid on treasures and treats during a silent auction, see demonstrations of canine skills, and take campus tours. CCI trains four types of assistance dogs to master over 40 specialized commands in the areas of Service Dogs, Skilled Companions, Hearing Dogs and Facility Dogs.

While no begging is allowed at the dining tables, there will be plenty of delicious people food, too. The chefs will vie for “Best of Breed” trophy for best appetizer, salad, entrée or dessert, and a “Best of Show” trophy will be awarded for overall favorite tapas chosen by guests.

A $30 donation is requested per person, with checks payable to: LPCCI P.O. Box 3896, Santa Rosa, CA 95402. Or purchase tickets online at www.lpcci.com, via email at lpcci@cci.org, or by calling 707-577-1774.
