Rob Schneider at Fabiani’s Santa Rosa

A birthday party for me? Awww….

It’s a tried-and-true formula: dress up a man like a woman, and hijinks ensure. Or, put a goofy guy in a faux-sexy setting, say, as an inept gigalo, and we all fall on the floor laughing.

That theory has made a career for comedian/actor Rob Schneider, formerly of Saturday Night Live and star of such flicks as “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo,” “The Hot Chick,” and “The Animal.” This Sunday, you can meet the man, and witness some of the charm that has made him a box office hit.

That’s because he is celebrating his 49th birthday celebration at Fabiani’s Ristorante in downtown Santa Rosa at 7 p.m. this Sunday, as a benefit dinner for the YWCA Women’s Shelter of Sonoma County. Admission is limited to just 75 guests, and seats go for $75 (general audience), $100 (chef’s table), or $150 (Schneider’s table), so expect to get a personal hello from the actor himself.

If the setting seems a bit odd – a lovely but low-key Italian restaurant on Mendocino Avenue and 7th Street, know that Schneider is a longtime friend of restaurant owner Franco Fabiani. They met through a mutual acquaintance more than 30 years ago at Café Sport in San Francisco, and Sunday evening, it’s expected that Schneider will have plenty of quips on hand (he’s been known to say that Franco is the only immigrant whose accent gets thicker the longer that he lives in America).

Stop laughing long enough to eat, since the four-course wine-paired menu includes prosciutto wrapped melon; a trio of gnocchi, ravioli, and tortellini; Caesar or beet salad; salmon piccata, chicken involtino, or lamb shank with red wine reduction sauce; and tiramisu or panna cotta.

Reserve your seats now, and be sure to bring your autograph book and camera.
