In winter, the vineyards of Napa Valley sing with frogs, serenading the rains. In spring, birds chatter and whistle. When summer comes along, however, it’s time for the more choreographed concerts, as professional musicians host performances at many top wineries.

One of the finest experiences can be found in St. Helena, where proprietors Ted, Laddie and Chris Hall roll out an entire summer-long season of music, wine, food, and film events at their Long Meadow Ranch Winery & Farmstead restaurant on Main Street.

Highlights this year include an elaborate concert series, “Dinner and a Movie” features, “Third Thursday” paired wine and food explorations, winemaker menus and more.

See if one – or all – of these events tickles your interest. They’re great excuses to visit St. Helena and rediscover the beauty (and wines) of the area. And remember, for these events on the Long Meadow lawn, lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.

Sunday, July 15: “Dinner and a Movie” featuring dinner at Farmstead, followed by a screening on the lawn of “Wild Horse, Wild Ride,” complete with dessert, popcorn and other movie treats. The film tells the story of the Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge, an annual contest that encourages 100 people to each gently work with a wild mustang in order to get it adopted into a better life beyond federal corrals. Hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as a “crowd-pleaser with a big heart,” the film traverses across the United States to tell stories of the profound bonds that can develop between people and animals. Tickets are $55 each and include dinner, film screening and movie treats.

Saturday, July 21: A concert by Alma Desnuda and the group’s captivating harmonies, rhythmic grooves, and inspiring lyrics. Tickets are $25 for limited advance general admission or $35 for general admission, and include a wine tasting.

Sunday, August 5: A concert by Sean Hayes, showcasing his free-spirited romantic music, along with echoes from the Blue Ridge Mountains of his youth to R&B soul greats like Otis Redding. The September 2012 release of his new album, Before We Turn to Dust, will mark his seventh full-length release. Tickets are $30 for limited advance general admission or $40 for general admission, and include a wine tasting.

Sunday, September 16: Harvest Party/Concert featuring Vinyl, Marin County’s favorite funky sons who meld funk, Latin jazz, dub and reggae. The rollicking afternoon brims with live music, summertime eats from Farmstead executive chef Stephen Barber’s new smoker, horseshoe games, and plenty of wine. Tickets will go on sale July 23.
