A Flavor! Napa Valley feast

November in Wine Country is jam-packed time of galas, festivals and outright parties. But one of the biggest is Flavor! Napa Valley 2013, which runs Weds.-Sun. all across the region.

This third annual Flavor! Napa Valley is bigger than ever before, as a five-day festival the Nov. 20-24 showcasing top chefs, high-end farm-to-table cuisine and fine wines. Many parts are already sold-out, but some reservations do remain.

Last year, 3,500-plus attendees flocked to the party, coming from around the world to rub elbows with top chef talent like Thomas Keller, Christopher Kostow and Masaharu Morimoto. This year, organizers are expecting even more guests.

Napa earned 12 Michelin stars for its restaurants in 2013, and unlike most major culinary events, only real Napa talent is allowed at Flavor. Participating chefs must have a restaurant in the Napa Valley or be a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the festival’s beneficiary.

Dozens of tastings, meals, seminars and workshops will be led by top chefs and graduates of the CIA at Greystone in St. Helena. You’ll be lavishly fed by 50 celeb-toques including Michael Chiarello, Scott Conant, Todd English, Larry Forgione, Jeffrey Jake, Christopher Kostow, Roy Choi, Masaharu Morimoto, Cindy Pawlcyn, Richard Reddington and Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi.

You won’t go thirsty, either. More than 150 world-class vintners will be pouring. And pouring. And pouring.

Prepare for fun, too. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, for example, is well known for his wacky sense of humor, and for breaking into song while he works. And the new Terroir to Table – Farm, Cellar & Kitchen Experiences take you behind-the-scenes for immersions into winemaking, olive oil pressing, cooking, and even beekeeping with the ranch and restaurant owners themselves.
